Getting
to Lleida (formerly Lérida) by coach and train from
Barcelona airport
Coach
There is a coach service [ALSA] between
Barcelona Airport and Lleida bus station. Timetables
and prices are available at http://www.alsa.es/portal/site/Alsa.* When using this portal, you should click
first on the "english" button at the head
of the page and then on the "Airport
services" button. You should then choose
"LLEIDA" from the drop-down list at Origin
and "BARCELONA AIRPORT" from the drop-down
list at Destination. You can also book your return
coach journey on-line using this website. However,
before choosing to use the coach service, you should
ensure that the coach arrives and leaves at a time
that avoids your waiting too long at the airport. The
morning coach leaves Lleida bus station at 05.55 in
the morning, arriving at Barcelona Airport at 07.55
in the morning. Also, remember that, on your inward
journey to Catalunya, on arrival at Barcelona airport
from outside Spain, luggage collection can take up to
45 minutes.

Train
Once you arrive at Barcelona airport (Prat
de Llobregat), in order to travel by train to Lleida
you should do the following:
1. Take a taxi (about 40 minutes, depending
on the traffic) or take the airport train (allow 50
minutes, but much less expensive than a taxi) from
the airport to Barcelona-SANTS, the main railway
station.
2. Buy a return ticket from Barcelona-SANTS
to LLEIDA-PIRINEUS.* You will need some time (allow
30 minutes, depending on the queue) to buy your
ticket. The ticket offices are on the ground floor
and the platforms are underground. It will save time
if you can make your reservation(s) and buy your
ticket(s) in advance - see RENFE webpage below. The
seat reservation for your return journey to
Barcelona-SANTS can be confirmed at the
LLEIDA-PIRINEUS railway station on the day prior to
your return to Barcelona. The fastest (300km/h.),
most comfortable train is the AVE, and the AVANT
which is almost as fast and just as comfortable, is
also a good alternative.
Please note:
On many trains, the train journey
between Barcelona-SANTS and Lleida usually lasts
approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. However, on the
newly-introduced high-speed train, the AVE, the
journey-time between Barcelona and Lleida is 55
minutes and the AVANT takes about one hour ten
minutes.
Also, by October 2008, the railway
station at Barcelona airport where you can catch the
high-speed trains, the AVE and the AVANT, to Lleida
may be operative. In this case, there will be no need
to go to Barcelona-SANTS, the main railway station,
in order to catch the train to LLEIDA-PIRINEUS.
